New York's Giuliani Leads Hillary Clinton for U.S.
Senate, Zogby Poll Says
By Kim Dixon

Washington, June 28 (Bloomberg) - New York City Mayor
Rudolph Giuliani leads U.S. first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton by
10 percentage points in a face-off for senator from New York, a
new Zogby International poll said.

The June 26-28 survey of 705 people found 50.4 percent of
likely New York State voters support Republican Giuliani for the
Senate seat to be vacated in 2000 by Democrat Daniel Patrick
Moynihan, while 40.2 percent support a potential candidacy by the
Democratic first lady, Zogby said. Last month a similar Zogby
poll found a tighter contest, with 49.3 percent supporting
Giuliani and 43.7 percent supporting Mrs. Clinton.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8
percentage points.

Both potential candidates' unfavorable ratings increased,
according to the poll. Giuliani's unfavorable rating rose to 29
percent from 27.4 percent, and Mrs. Clinton's unfavorable rating
rose to 44.7 percent from 31.4 percent last month.

Among regions, Giuliani leads the first lady among upstate
and suburban voters, while Mrs. Clinton leads among New York City
voters, according to the survey.

While Mrs. Clinton has yet to announce her candidacy, she's
set to sign a lease for a Manhattan campaign headquarters, the
New York Times reported yesterday.
