Here's a simple connect-the-dots for you Chuckster:

1. Since OS/application vendors release patches, and not all algorithms are perfect, we must declare that any OS/application is not perfect; we have no metric to determine a perfect application yet.
2. Since it is not perfect, there are code segments within the OS/application that are not functioning properly.
3. If code segments are not functioning properly then a percentage of them are making use of OS resources; improper use of OS resources.
4. Machines need rebooting occasionally to clean up these mis-managed resources.
