CD Plus.com Enters Agreement With INTERVU to Publish Music Content To Enhance Consumer Buying Decisions NEW YORK, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- INTERVU Inc. (Nasdaq: ITVU), the leading service provider of Internet audio and video delivery solutions, today announced that it has entered into a long-term agreement with Muze, Inc., the leading independent source of digital information about music, books and video that powers the majority of major music retailers.
Under the agreement, INTERVU plans to distribute and provide hosting services for 1.2 million 30-second promotional music clips from over 100,000 CDs with embedded links to Muze's market-leading music information database. INTERVU will offer the clip service directly to Muze's numerous online music retail customers as well as INTERVU's existing and potential customers. In addition, INTERVU will refer Muze's data services to INTERVU's customers. Muze currently provides in-depth digital music data to over ninety percent of the online music retailers enabling consumers to make more educated purchasing decisions when buying music products over the Internet. Under the agreement, INTERVU will market a value-added service to its customers that will incorporate promotional music clips in Microsoft's new Windows Media Technologies 4.0 format.
"We are pleased to offer Muze's customers a choice in streaming software and a solution that is very complementary to their e-commerce business," said Will Poole, senior director of Marketing and Business Development, Streaming Media Division, Microsoft Corp. "Windows Media Technologies, combined with INTERVU's content management and delivery services, offer consumers the ability to better evaluate products before purchasing."
The first customer to benefit from INTERVU's new music clip service is CD Plus.com Inc., Canada's leading Internet music retail site. CD Plus.com plans to publish promotional music clips to its Web site to offer its consumers an opportunity to listen to music before purchasing CDs or cassettes online. In addition to its Web site, CD Plus also operates over 100 retail store locations across Canada selling both new and used music, and will be further expanding its Internet presence into the used music marketplace with the July launch of CDPlusXchange, a used music Internet site.
"This new service, based on the relationship between Muze and INTERVU, demonstrates INTERVU's flexible distribution capabilities that offer our customer's content a broader reach through numerous high-traffic Web sites, while helping to build our customer's brands," said Ed Huguez, INTERVU's chief operating officer. "INTERVU is continuing to build relationships with key Web sites and portals to offer new distribution channels for audio and video content providers and valuable new content for the Web sites and portals."
Multi-site Publishing & Promotion for Streaming Content
As multimedia content on the Internet grows in popularity, content providers are beginning to look for additional ways they can derive revenue from their audio and video content. At the same time, there are many content aggregator Web sites such as portals that are searching for more multimedia content to broadcast through their site to increase traffic, create a "sticky" environment, and build recurring audiences. With a delivery network specifically designed to distribute multimedia content over the Internet, and strong relationships established with key content providers and content aggregators, INTERVU is uniquely positioned to help its customers by offering a multi-site publishing service that will benefit both content providers and aggregators. In addition, through INTERVU's content management and distribution services, content distributors have a central and efficient distribution strategy that can significantly reduce their investments in the infrastructure required to deliver their audio and video content over the Internet.
