Do you think that this will impact WSTL since they supposedly have a "first right of use" to AMTX technology, having relinquished AMTX to TXN when they bought them at $20/share?

Al,
Wstl's relationship with TXN is one of the reasons I have perservered with Wstl. They are on the board for ADSL with TXN and have first availability and special pricing with TXN/Amati implementations. Unfortunately TXN chip had been a power monger. There was no TXN implementations for ADSL shown by Wstl at SuperComm. Only Ala and ADI. I know last September, however, when I went to the shareholder meeting they had a very good TXN/Amati ADSL modem on display. Just too power hungry.

I have always presumed, however, that TXN/Amati would eventually come through with a killer product. Their new 4000 chip goes into full scale production in November and provides for 4 ADSL modems on one chip with only 1 watt/modem. I haven't heard of any Wstl announcements concerning it, but I don't think you need to be a genius to think that they are putting something together. Also, I'm sure BA had a reason for giving Wstl a 5 year contract. They knew that TXN would eventually come through. Also GTE should finalize their merger with BA around November. What might GTE do for ADSL?

Staying with Westell till the cows come home or are found dead,

All the best,
Michael
