Rande, do you have an opinion on CMTL? I had been looking at this co. a while back but just forgot about them. Recent news, and a corresponding stock breakout to a new high has renewed my interest.

The News:
Army Communications - Electronic Command Selects Comtech for Movement Tracking System Program - Maximum $418 Million

PR Newswire - June 24, 1999 20:06

MELVILLE, N.Y., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL) today announced that its Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp.(CMDC) subsidiary has contracted with the U.S. Army to implement the Army's Movement Tracking System (MTS).
The contract calls for up to a maximum of $418 million of mobile terminals, computers and peripherals, and communications systems and services to be supplied over an 8-year period, subject to annual governmental funding, with quantities and delivery dates indefinite. The Company anticipates first year funding to approximate $10 million. The contract requires for its inception the satisfactory demonstration of the system, which is expected to occur this summer.
The Company noted that other governmental departments and agencies are able to participate in this contract along with the U.S. Army.

One of the things that makes this interesting is that a $400 mil contract, with $10 mil in the first year is very significant to a co that only did about $37 mil over the past 4 quarters. Also, it appears that another large order was received recently. This is from the 3rd Q. results which were announced 6/3

"Backlog at April 30, 1999 was $43,652,000 as compared to $18,729,000 a year before and $15,452,000 at July 31, 1998. The increase in backlog is a result of the large order reported in the first quarter."

The company is profitable:

"MELVILLE, N.Y., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL) today reported for the third quarter ended April 30, 1999, sales of $10,473,000, earnings from operations of $595,000, and net income of $498,000 or $.18 per share. For the same quarter of last year, the Company had sales of $8,689,000, earnings from operations of $436,000 and net income of $388,000 or $.15 per share."

And even with the recent rise in the stock (it has run from $8.50 a few days ago to around $12 now) the PE is still only around 10. Considering the growth potential, this one looks quite attractive.

Rande,

I've been watching PTEK. Can't figure why it is at this low level. Do you think it is a good buy with USA.net (MBOX) coming out this week?

Thanks,

Minnow
