Thread,

Satellite newbie here with a quick question. Just what kind of Internet access will one be able to get from these birds? Hughes' DirectPC is almost worthless because it's one way, and the user has to be fixed, with modem and dish.

I ask because cable, DSL, and short range FM (Metricom's (MCOM) Ricochet service) are all rolling out more or less simultaneously (yes, I know cable has a head start in the residential markets). Ricochet allows the user to be moving, but will be restricted for some years to large U.S. cities. They already have 28kps service in three cities, but just got funding to roll out 128kps service in 48 cities.

Thanks, Tuck
