VCR-type applications. The 8-10 Gig capacity would be good for this, as it would be able to record 2 or 3 DVD-quality movie's length of time.

Considering most Americans can't get the blinking 12:00 off the VCR, there will be very few buyers of a 10GB drive to copy DVD's.
