ROUND ROCK, Texas (CBS.MW) -- Dell Computer on Monday said Boeing chose the personal computer maker to supply desktop and notebook PCs, equipment and services over the next three years.

Dell said it will provide the commercial jetliner manufacturer (BA: news, msgs) with an "open quantity" of PCs. Boeing currently has an installed base of approximately 175,000 personal computers.

The pact also allows Boeing (BA: news, msgs) to evaluate and incorporate additional Dell (DELL: news, msgs) products on an ongoing basis, the Round Rock, Texas-based company said.

In addition to supplying PCs, Dell will provide services including asset tagging, custom software image loading through its DellPlus factory integration service, warranty and technical support.

Shares of Dell, the No. 1 direct-sale computer vendor, fell 3/16 to 36 3/4 in recent trading. Boeing shares gained 5/8 to 44 3/16.

Dell previously was the standard supplier of desktop and notebook computers to Boeing sites in Puget Sound, Wa., Wichita, Kan., Philadelphia and international locations.

The new deal will allow Boeing to "simplify its maintenance program and technology platforms throughout the company," Dell said in a statement.
