There is a trade off for the high operating temperatures however. The material is highly brittle in the production process, but nothing that can not be overcome (eventually).

CREE is also involved with lasers using the SiC crystal platform as well as a SiC-based microwave device that should debut this year. Like a bozo, I passed on investing in the company earlier this year in the $12 range believing my knowledge about applications for CREE's research to be on the bleeding edge. I thought I would have at least 18 months to get my money invested. At ~$65 now, I am crying over spilt milk (the laser application is what got the stock up and moving).

Oh well.

I am interested in other companies in this field particularly those that are producing wireless applications. Please advise if you find any.
