I am not arguing that freenet's pose a big threat to AOL, only that
AOL's technological foundation is crumbling.

And if Telcos team up with AOL to provide "always on" high speed access for FREE!! w/ AOL and telco's splitting revenue for the pay per minutes of use like Europe

That's the mother of all "if" statements for AOL holders. Telco's have the money to build the ISP infrastructure themselves and therefore I'm cynical on AOL benefiting. We will also see price discounting for dial-in access as there is ever more ISP competition, and cable is becoming more commonly available. Also ADSL will be a pure telco venture.
