Compaq Ready to Tap Continental's Brenneman as CEO
By Eric Moskowitz 6/28/99 2:59 PM ET

Compaq's CEO search may end with the highflier next door. It's Greg Brenneman's job if he wants it, according to two people familiar with the Compaq search. Brenneman, president and COO of Continental Airlines (CAL:NYSE), has been instrumental in turning the Houston-based airline's fortunes around over the past four years. Now he is close to accepting the challenge of resuscitating the fortunes of the world's largest computer hardware manufacturer.

Although Brenneman hasn't received an official offer, Compaq is close to making one very soon, says one person who requested anonymity. A representative at Brenneman's office declined to comment.
