Wireless services revenues grew 40.0% for the quarter adjusted for the sale of AT&T's messaging business in October 1998. On a reported basis, revenues grew 34.2%. Consolidated subscribers reached nearly 7.6 million as of March 31, 1999, a 23.0% increase over March 31, 1998, while net subscriber additions rose 94.5% year-over-year to over 378 thousand.

Since it began providing service in January 1999, Triton PCS has launched service in 15 markets that cover a population of approximately 8.7 million people. Among its initial markets are Virginia's largest city, Norfolk-Virginia Beach, and its state capital, Richmond; as well as Charleston, Columbia, Greenville-Spartanburg and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, and Augusta, Georgia. The company plans to bring its wireless service to 18 more markets by the end of 1999, including major destination resorts such as Hilton Head, South Carolina.
