Mutual fund managers (FM in your terminology) are the worse at lemming behavior but other professional money managers (MM) also tend to do the same. For convenience sakes I call them all MM. Perhaps it's because most of them work in NY, read the same newspapers, listen to the same analysts,go to the same bars, socialize with each other, etc, etc. The result is a very insular culture, that produces on average worse results than a no brainer S&P 500 average.
