The original study that caused the furor, which I read about in the Washington Post, was done by Johns Hopkins. I have not done the search for it, because it was awhile back, but perhaps I should, now that you mention it...If I get anywhere, I will let you know...

I tried, but could not nail it down very well. I have something, though. It was reported in OB GYN News, in 1990, that when there is a multiple pregnancy, the sex of the fetuses are determinable, and abortion is used to improve survival odds, in 99% of cases the couples opt to keep males. I may try to do better later, but I tire of the search. I have a URL for the source of my information:
