I think Alan Greenspan is looking at this pathetic ostrich lying in
mid field with its head buried in the sand as a bull's eye! the
earnings better come in at 24c or else.

Steve:

The data comes from the tabulations at the end of Cowen's "Internet Capitalist", a useful bi-weekly review of things net related, including coverage of AOL:

sgcowen.com

The numbers I listed are from the 6/15/99 issue, the next issue is due out soon, you need Adobe Acrobat to read/print the pdf file. I have a (free) E-mail subscription, always looking for alternative perspectives and good data. The Cowen newsletter is somewhat of a rosy perspective, but I'd be interested in your view of it.

I agree with you on AOL's slowing US subscriber growth rate, at least from the sequential % view (although the absolute number of people online in the US is still growing at an increasing rate), it's the usual law of big numbers coming into play. That's why grabbing a healthy chunk of the worldwide users is important to AOL, as is broadening their online offerings and revenue sources.
