Certainly every V2 1000 had to be either a newly minted chip or a "backroom stock" unit. Either way, they've got to be cheap. The .35 micron lines are likely easy to get room on at TSMC these days.

It's even more incredible when you consider the other vendors are offering heavy discounts on their V2 products. I can't imagine PCData is lumping together all V2 boards, since they are separating out the TNT2 lines. I don't think I've seen major discounts on the V2 1000, but have seen competitor's cards going for $69 and Banshee's for the same price. Why would anyone buy a V2 over a Banshee? Are all these cards being used for SLI?

Not necessarily... V2 1000 (aka Voodoo2) offers a couple of
features which TNT2 does not.

1. It's an add-on card which can work with any existing card.
2. It's cheap.
3. It runs Glide.

I have a Voodoo3 3000 at home, but I'm considering purchasing
a V2 1000 for work for when Q3A comes out. I like my current
2D card for work purposes, so I wouldn't want to switch entirely
to Voodoo3, and the Voodoo2 is a nice, cheap accelerator upgrade.

V2 1000 beats TNT2 in retail sales for May?

Jesus...this branding thing is outa control. These stupid consumers will buy anything with a 3dfx logo on it. Remember all those "free" Voodoo2 chips 3dfx has stockpiled? They just might be able to get rid of the damn things. Will wonders never cease.
