Art,

No music publisher that has to pay artists for their work is going to allow free downloads, no matter how many Diamond Rio units flood the market.

Using a Diamond Rio! for illegal purposes will go largely unpunished unless you want to put every youth between the age of 11 and 16 behind bars. There are just too many detours around the barracades that will be erected by the content providers. Just draw a parallel between an off-shore bank account and an off-shore FTP server.

Also, at some point there will be 2 or 3 new free download sites for every one or two that they shut down. And if nobody is making money on the transaction how do you recoop the damages, by caning the kid who started the site?

I wouldn't rule this out. Some enterprising music publisher mught well come up with a plan to break an artiste this way or alternatively as part of an ad campaign. The artiste would still get paid one way or the other either by gaining market acceptance or from an ad campaign.

This technonlogy of MP3 allied with SNDKs goodiews are going to create whole new openings that haven't been tried yet. The music business and movies to a certain extent are very creative wit new technology. Thats the history of EP's LP's Mr Palinsky v. Mr Sarnoff.

Best regards,

L
