Good to hear from you. In response, I'll say 2 things:

1. MM may mean "Market Maker", plain and simple. But my ears perked up when you thumped him so hard. On this thread, some people are trying to learn what we're discussing here, so that they can eventually add something substantive to the discussion. I'm sure he wasn't looking to try your patience. It just hit a nerve with me..

2. There are millions outside of the financial industry who invest.. of course. And there are probably many day traders out there by now. I never said that there were less than 2 million people who trade stocks. But I don't believe that most of them are sophisticated enough to have a deep rooted learned response to the acronym MM. No way. Still, thank you for taking time to respond to me, and to explain your confusion. He confused me too, at first.
