Houses, contrary to Presidents, do inhale. It's a fact. You're right. They are Scot-Tissue absorbent. No ~ Brawny.

Maxi Pads.

You got your ordinary "pads", and your Maxi Pads.

(I need a sign on the gate. The rancho name. Casita Maxi Pado)

I don't think I can sell this one. This Pig. Not without coughing. How you going to sell it when you planted the trees as little babies that are now big and all the mature rhodies in the yard? When you have to come see them all every Spring? When Current's buried over there? When the spouse took care of you and loved you for twenty-five years here and said she doesn't want to sell it? When this was your hearth and bedroom and kitchen and museum and library? When illness nearly killed you here, and triumphs visited? Life played out? Loved friends appeared? Where you reached maturation?

Easy. Offer me some money.

More.

That should do it.

Wow, busy day. Nightgowns and deep thoughts and I don't know what else. I think it's probably more than I can grasp right now.

Today I finally went to the museum for which I work. About time, I reckon. I'd about forgot how cool live art is after making do with pictures for so long. Good experience. I saw a photo that reminded of you and X when you reach dowager mum's of World Rulers. I'll see if I can find it on the net.

>So it probably IS hard to sell a
house that has become a real presence for you, or maybe one in which you raised your children, filled with all
those wonderful memories. I like to think of my houses inhaling the laughter and the happiness of our family
and making it part of its personality.<

That is such a marvelous image. I know that I moved through some pretty ratty places in college, but having friends visit or experiencing something memorable made the places somehow more alive - indwelt by good ghosts.
And this, our little California shack, has eight years of our marriage - some high times and some low ones - and now a family in the making - woven into its gestalt.

Helen was outside yesterday and Spouse was gardening. Helen wanted in, so what she did is wait for Spouse to look - then she put her hand in the bird bath. This is an offense punishable by Banishment Inside. I must grin at her cleverness.
