It was inaccurate to say I didn't get the flag burning issue. I do understand the passion that goes with believing the flag should be protected. Hell, I feel that passion myself. Which is one reason why I get leery about passing a law based on passion.

I absolutely believe the people who walked into battle should never be forgotten. Between my cousin and my father I was acquainted with a few guys who didn't come back. I have two uncles that I never knew who were killed in action. My dad does work for the DAV and the VFW and he is quite concerned about trends he sees regarding treatment of vets. Concepts such as duty and honor are ridiculed by numerous elements in society. What to do to change that? I don't know, but a flag burning amendment seems like putting a band-aid on a severed artery.

Y'know, my cousin who saw action would probably slap me around for bringing up property rights in a flag burning debate. Maybe its time to put aside some of those dogmatic libertarian screeds and think this through a little more. Yours, Charles
