Gottfried, >>I think Sony will simply pull life support from HiFD

According to Nikkei article (in Japanese), Sony delayed the re-instroduction of HiFD drive to this fall or later. They said they were replacing some parts other than the troubled head. That's why they need more time for product testing.

It's time for them to abandon it and switch over to Zip.

And now for the rest of the story ??

Gottfried, the one thing that surprises me the most is that the LS120 won't go away. It is much more complex than the Zip, it has to cost more to produce, it is much slower than the Zip, and it should have more mechanical problems (a la the HiFD). However apparently Imation doesn't know that this is a bad investment of their resources. Zip has conquered all its other competition. How do you think the Zip-LS120 battle will play out?
