That, indeed, would be lovely (0 national debt, wow!) but I believe that at the rate of the present budget surplus it is going to be a quarter century at the minimum for that to happen. <VBG>

Sarmad -- uncle Sam has been loving this wave of stock speculation -- taxes are rolling in, everybody has a job, we can run a huge trade deficit and still have the dollar rising to offset inflation with cheap imports and inflows of capital, and the Japanese save money for us and they let us use as much of it as we want and will keep on doing this as long as we want their money so we can have a negative savings rate and yet we can continue to increase our spending at a faster rate than we increase our earnings -- and if all of this just goes on for another 15 years just like it is now then we will have no debts -- and AMZN will have a market cap greater than today's entire GNP -- LOL -- check the assumptions and the fine print before you throw this party.
