you expressed doubt that social conservative positions could be legitimately advanced in a secularized public discourse

I expressed doubt that the secular arguments would be any more appealing or convincing than the religious ones. Resort to dubious statistical correlations merely to "keep the pro- life side in the game" reinforces this belief, and leads me to suspect that the secular arguments are window-dressing for a fundamentally religious view.

There have been statistical correlations advanced between the rise in abortion and in child abuse, the rise in abortion and in male delinquency in paying child support, and so on, but they are not necessarily conclusive.

They are way beyond "not necessarily conclusive". A statistical correlation does not even begin to demonstrate a causative relationship. What statistical correlation do you get between the rise in abortion and the value of the US stock markets? Shall we deduce a causative relationship?
