Curious console information...

Thanks to Jay over on the fool for the following...

What I find oddly curious is why does EA even care? Since they aren't competitors wouldn't a "no comment" have been better even if they feel otherwise? I understand the comments, but why burn bridges. Gordon is either very smart or very dumb. I would like to postulate the following...

1) If he's smart then he may be planning to go console in some way with 3dfx hardware. (Of course, it doesn't have to be 3dfx hardware in the console, but the way he's evangalizing 3dfx hardware it just makes sense.) If true, talking smack about the competitor can only help you.

2) If he's dumb then he's just mouthing off and setting himself up for a strained relationship with Sega for absolutely no reason.

As one of the largest content providers in the business, there is nobody more qualified to enter the market with a console than EA. In one move they can cut off a major supply of content to their competitors while redirecting all that traffic their own way. They can do in the console market what 3dfx has done in the retail graphics market.

The real question is...is Gordon smart or dumb?

Curious about the console numbers?

(And yes...3dfx retail numbers would be putting the smack down on all the players in terms of volume. Makes me wonder how 3dfx technology would sell in a console. Consider the fact that every Voodoo2 sold is solely for playing games...with full screen only and no OpenGL ICD that is all it can be used for.)
