Re: Control of Java

SUNW is in the awkward position of wanting to retain proprietary control of Java while at the same time trying to get it blessed as an international standard. I've long maintained that they can't have it both ways and that the price of making Java an ISO standard will be that SUNW will have to give up control of Java (just as AT&T gave up control of C and C++).

I personally believe that SUNW would be better served if it stopped pretending that Java was vendor-neutral and simply concentrated on promoting it as their own technology (which is clearly their real intention anyway). I fully expect, however, that we're past the point where that is possible and so inevitably Java will be wrested from SUNW's control and become a public standard.

Or why LINNIX is catching on. Give away to OS and sell the things it resides on.
