HeatherN - Great post! I'm not sure we need yet another acronym in our lives, but ASP is clearly a logical outgrowth of digital downloading. I think Jim Seymour is one of the great clear thinkers in the tech area and, in my opinion, well worth the cost of a subscription to TheStreet.com all by himself. He's certainly helped me make money. I'm anxious to read his follow up stories and to see if he mentions DRIV.
When I read his article yesterday, I also dug out his prior series on MPEG. They make an interesting combination to read together. The game market is also a potential market for ASP. That is, you buy the basic game via download and then as each level is mastered or as the developers add new modules to play with, you download the updated version.
Like you, I also own a "hedge" stock in this area. Mine is NVDM, a great company/lousy stock. They specialize in keeping software up to date within corporations.
By the way, hope the thread noticed that BOEING selected DELL as its worldwide supplier of computers and "selected services" yesterday. BA has 175,000 computers. Can software updates be far behind?
