Djoobahjieh (and btw what sort of incantation is that?),

The comparison is based on energy density. Ballpark would be 170-180 wh/kg for Valence's new cells, versus 'average' li-ion cells providing 115-120 wh/kg (yeah, yeah, some are a *bit* better, many are a *lot* worse, e.g., 100 wh/kg).

Your comparison depends upon the size of the battery as well as the energy density. I have friends whose laptops get 4-6 hours depending upon how hard they're being worked; but those laptops have bricks for batteries. Valence could provide at least that sort of performance with a slim laptop with a 'sheet' of 4mm thick cells behind the screen. Bulk it up and you can get more performance.

Lev did state that their tests which resulted in 8-10 hours involved heavy power consumption (eg, playing DVD disks, etc).

Bottom line: the cells *will* outperform all others. *When* they are finally in the market, then PC mag et al can do their comparative evals and then we'll know more precisely how they line up.

djoo: This is what you posted after the call are you sure your connection didn't fade??? <<I think Lev was talking about run times during the CC when my connection faded out. Thanks in advance.>> I listened to the call on the phone and interpreted nothing to contradict what Rich Wolf has put forth.

This debate isn't worthwhile anyhow, Valence is finally shipping completed product off the manufacturing lines and joint venture partner Hanil will hit the market very soon. Remember Lev said they had already signed off on the Korean assembly lines.....
