It's even worse. Intel has profits and pays taxes. That's $2000 / Xeon after taxes so the number is more like $2800 gross profit. Not too likely.

You may have noticed that I tend to argue on a qualitative level, rather than quantitative. Unfortunately, the discussions always seem to get bogged down with accounting details.

My point is that no one is making money at the low end (Celeron/K6/MII.) Intel is not going to drop prices on their profitable products, except under extreme duress.
