Darrell, marriage vows have changed over the centuries to suit the times. There is nothing sacred about them. Soon the "love honor and obey" will be gone in favor of different terminology. In Elizabethan times there was one set of vows depending on which part of England you were living in and whether Spain was an influence or not. Marriage was defined completely differently too, often a business proposition for the elite classes. Whats the big deal? Its a non-issue and certainly shouldn't be regulated by the state!

The one unfortunate with regard to marriage is that gays are left off which would be ok except that benefits laws in this country hinge on marriage. So to be fair they should either apply a "domestic partners" arrangement for gay families or allow gays to marry or decouple benefits and marital relations.
