June 29, 1999 02:04 PM
TUCSON, Ariz., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Wavetech International, Inc. ITEL announced today that it has completed the initial installation phase of an advanced Internet Protocol (IP) long distance service. The IP network is based on a proprietary system designed and installed by Softalk, Inc., as part of a comprehensive licensing agreement recently signed by the Company.
When completed, Wavetech will offer toll quality long distance services using internet protocol (VoIP) that seamlessly operates over variety of digital networks, including the Internet, Frame Relay, dedicated data or traditional circuit switched networks.

The advantage of Wavetech's internet based communication system is that it allows users access to its long distance network without the need for special hardware or software. The only requirement is that users have internet access.

Targeting domestic and international long distance customers, Wavetech's system will offer a new level of convenience, features and service, while giving the consumer a dramatic reduction in cost. The service is currently undergoing trials by a number of Fortune 500 companies here in North America and in Asia. Wavetech will market its services to both corporate and individual consumers.

Gerry Quinn, Wavetech's President & CEO said today, "The telecom industry is undergoing significant infrastructure changes. Conventional hardware and technology driving today's voice and data applications will be replaced by highly flexible software solutions operating over intelligent digital networks. Offering these cutting edge services to customers marks a pivotal change for the Company. The market is vast and we are looking forward to establishing a solid, profitable presence."

Wavetech International, Inc., founded in 1993, is a facilities-based communications company. Onward,
