Amen to that. I also can (and do) adjust my rates charged according to the situation. The next time I am at a cocktail party and someone asks for my opinion, I think I'll tell them I usually get paid for my advice so I can't comment.

Michael, RE: I get paid to be a teacher, but when I tutor others it is up to me whether I charge anything or not. Sometimes I do it for free.

And one thing that I focus on again and again is that my position in any stock should be irrelevant to everyone else. No one can fully understand the logic behind any of my long or short positions; that is part of my belief that investing is more art than science.

What I others can learn from me and what I can learn from others is how to use the numerous tools that are available to us in the information marketplace. Once you learn how to use a new tool, you can form your own opinions.

That thought aside, when you tutor people for free, do you give them the correct answers to their problems, or do you teach them the tool to arrive at the correct answer?
