"She cut me cold"

In my part of the world, the most common usage is "She cut me off." And I don't mean in traffic either.

"She cut me cold"

For those of you who may be under the mistaken belief that this never happens in the south, allow me to disabuse y'all. I can name half a dozen bars in Houston, Dallas, and elsewhere where I can personally attest that this phenomenon happened on a surprisingly regular basis. Of course, now that I think on it, that was a decade or two ago. Don't know if it still happens.

Anton Chekov to Alexei Suvorin, May 30, 1888:
It is time for writers to admit that nothing in this world makes sense. Only fools and charlatans think they know and understand everything. The stupider they are, the wider they conceive their horizons to be. And if an artist decides to declare that he understands nothing of what he sees — this in itself constitutes a
considerable clarity in the realm of thought, and a great step forward.
