Dan,

Good grief! You're drawing a sweeping conclusion about TDFX' future based on anecdotal evidence from one CompUSA store!?! Talk about knee jerk investing! If S4 is selling so good, what is your reaction to news Creative is dropping the product? If it was selling good they wouldn't be dropping it when the S3/DIMD merger is still 4 months off!

There's no way S4 is going to have a significant impact on V3 sales. TNT was as fast then as S4 is now and it couldn't stop Banshee sales. Listen to the news from Europe: V3 3000 is in very short supply and demand is high. TDFX is selling every one they make, nearly three months after release, and still at the original selling price.

A word about CompUSA folks...

I have known a couple managers, sales guys, tech folk, and inventory managers, and LP guys (aka loss prevention bouncers :) ) and unless you are getting your figures from CompUSA Corperate, then anything you hear from these guys is biased. Your store "guy" may be able to give you his impressions (if he/she can set aside the bias that most of these guys have) as to how a certain product is fairing, but even then unless you have access to the inventory guy or manager, you don't have a good picture of what the store does. Now, lets say the manager is your brother... knowing what one store is doing tells you just that, the status of one store. Each store has it's own demographic and is not indicative of the results for the whole country. Example: V3 were selling like hotcakes where i'm at but you can't give them away in Bloomington, IL (from what i've heard).

Myself and many others on this board, like to hear local results, but honestly I am more concerned with the entire domestic picture and the entire foreign arena than I am one Compusa store.

</off soapbox> Speaking of a global picture, Pcdata figures are only for domestic retail correct? Is there a source that identifies foreign sales, OEM, or internet sales? Anyone pool sales from techdata, CHS, SED?
