Listening to the replies about the AT&T breakup has been informative. I hope MSFT will be clever enough to settle for something that will benefit the shareholders and not leave it up to a judicial system that seems to produce bizarre decisions with regularity. The AT&T breakup was certainly good for the shareholders in the long run, despite AT&T's subsequent blunders in the computer business. When you are as rich as AT&T, and have that kind of cash flow it makes up for lots of goofs. Another reason to buy big companies.
One interesting aspect was the statement by one of MSFT competitors that the thing he wanted to see was MSFT being forbidden to invest in other companies. If that's what competitors fear, it should be good for MSFT stockholders. I've long thought it was one of MSFT not so obvious strengths.
