I missed the Van Gogh. My father- in- law was in the throes of a terminal illness, and I was not sure about making unnecessary plans, so I put off trying to get tickets until his condition stabilized a bit. By the time I tried, they were all out, and I was reluctant to stand in line from 5 in the morning to get them. I considered scalpers, but when I heard that the quality of the paintings was highly uneven, I decided that scalpers prices were not for me...
...Rap is highly repetitive, although occasionally I find something tolerable. I mostly listen to "alternative" when the car radio is on, or play my own. Fortunately, my son has pretty much picked up my tastes. I do not listen to jazz much, although I sometimes put on Duke Ellington or Count Basie. I do like Myles, but I have not gotten any recordings to own...

...On MOMA, which I love:I was not sure, I admit, what your take on modern art might be, but since you are a cultured sort, I thought you would be beyond total phillistinism in that respect:-). I guess you can walk to the Met and the Guggenheim easily, and the Whitney is not bad. When we finally move back into D.C., in about three years, I am considering getting an apartment a couple of blocks from the National Gallery, a nice complex where a number of prominent people live...

Some contenders:C&P (of course), Karenina, W&P, Tom Jones, Pride and Prejudice, Vanity Fair, David Copperfield, The Red and the Black, Moby Dick, Lord Jim, Barchester Towers, The Ambassadors, Jude the Obscure, Fathers and Sons, 'Til We Have Faces. Obviously not exhaustive, and off the top of my head, but do tell me your top picks...
