CMGI'S NEWS TODAY-WILL IT AFFECT GNET?

On the businesswire.com we have a complex dealing that could influence the web top ten+ portal race. Namely CMGI's 83% acquisition of Alta Vista with Compaq as partner:

Editor's Summary:
-- CMGI takes majority stake in AltaVista; Compaq to be CMGI's
largest outside shareholder
-- CMGI's Internet leadership and resources to accelerate
AltaVista's move to world-leading portal network
-- Compaq named a premier IT partner to CMGI; CMGI to be a premier
Internet technology and solutions supplier to Compaq
-- CMGI to collaborate with Compaq's world-class research labs and
business groups to develop and rapidly deploy next-generation
Internet technologies

I think this may be the beginning of yet another vie for the top ten portal slot.
CMGI's CEO Wetherell seems to have the drive and vision to make thing happen, and will likely be crossing wires with Paul Allen as the Wired world via portals positioning progress's.

I don't really see yet the specific short term affects of this. The Alta Vista deal today did not seem to influence GNET's pace. However down the road we may feel their influence.

I just thought I would throw the idea on the table here. Maybe some of you have a clear handle on how this deal will affect Gnet or PA's positioning.

I am off to the beach now so won't be around to read the posts for awhile.

This sure has been an interesting month or three!
And the next one is shaping up for more rides!

PS- GNET was up a tad after the bell
