Today's 3.4 million share was actually quite healthy compare to the anemic 1 to 2 million share volume we had early last week.

I think the rally today must be attributed to Richard Gardner's( analyst from Salomon Smith Barney who upgraded AAPL in mid 98, downgraded in Jan 99, and upgraded again on June 1st) comment debunking all the rumors generated by O'Grady et al last week.

Though the idea of P1 being scrapped seem rather ridiculous to most and is inconsistent with what was known from other sources and plain common sense, Gardner probably wouldn't stick his neck out unless he had something pretty solid to go on regarding progress of consumer portable.

Salomon Smith Barney has a lot of retail clout. The stock started moving when the buy rating reiteration hit Bloomberg this morning. Reuter also put out a piece that made it to Yahoo about an hour before the close.

PS to Retiarius: your QT "colors" parady was hilarious.
