I think Teilhard was thinking of a connection that wasn't "wired." He's sorta hip right now, he's one of the poster kids for the New Age, but I think that's pastiche.

The current debates in evolution theory rage over information theory, which is related to computer geek stuff. The "lines of code" embedded in the simplest of cells is staggering, but I guess raw chance is sufficient to program this code. A recent book on the issue is Michael Behe's Darwin's Black Box.

Evolution is hardly alien to Christian thought. Augustine described a form of evolution on his writings 1600 years ago. My pal Jaki is an evolutionist. Darwinism is alien to Christian thought, Darwinism being pure chance with no intelligent design. Humanity has no significance in the Darwinian cosmos, it is merely one more odd life form.
