Linux as a desktop needs a few generations (2 years at least) to evolve into something that's comparable in user friendliness as the 1998 MSFT product offerings. As a simple techie desktop Linux is fine ... for now it has more of chance to impact MSFT in the server arena.

Who knows what the desktop will look like in two years, but you can bet MSFT won't be standing still like SUNW is.

We will install LINUX on our new home PC. We plan to purchase a new PC later on this year.

The system my husband installed is user friendly. I've used it. Butt the best part is that it doesn't crash on a daily basis. I hear good things about the mailer, "Ishamel". Last I heard, Star Office company needs to produce software for USRX, 'Pilot' though.

At this time, I don't know which LINUX system we will install at home. One thing is for sure ~ it's hard to beat the LINUX price for an operating system.
