I would bet that GeoCities had a provision that they could unilaterally change the terms of service. If so, Yahoo can do what they want as long as they follow the requirements for changing the terms of service. GeoCities members can probably avoid the Yahoo claims if they do not make any changes to their pages. But if they change anything, I would bet that the new contract terms provide that any alterations or modifications to a page constitute acceptance of the new terms.

Did you ever read the find print on your credit card contracts? Basically they can do whatever they want and if you use the credit card you accept the changes.

Probably the same principle here.

Of course there is the contract of adhesion issue, but that's beyond this post.
