I forget what church you were raised in- did they really teach you about theological history? Where did you really learn all this- certainly not in your California high school! You searched for these things with your very superior mind and perhaps met people along the way who taught you. I'm the product, as you know!, of a typical Catholic upbringing of the 50s, replete with glow-in-the-dark rosaries, Virgin appearances in grottos, the almost grotesque (to me now) belief in the transubstantiation of the Eucharist.
I did learn about the fulfillment of prophecy, but I don't find it convincing. I know you do, and I know how much you have read to validate your own beliefs-- FAR more than the average person would ever hope to absorb in their lifetimes! I wish God would make it a little easier? It's become too much a part of a past that is filled with similar stories and identical symbolism; it's all wrapped up with myth. Look how many here struggle with the ideas--because they are unwilling to believe, to see truth? I don't think so. But because they feel so removed from this particular story- fairy tale or not.
Well- that's where I am anyway- I shouldn't speak for anyone else.
