Ed mentioned the film studio system as a model for the iNEXTV internet video networks. Major studios today fund some movies internally, buy projects from indepedents, buy distribution rights etc. Film business is instructive because you manufacture the product once and get to resell it multiple times in the different distribution channels; domestic box-office, domestic home video, foreign box office, foreign home video(rights are usually sold region or country by country), pay tv, over the air tv, cable, now DVD. So, film companies love new distribution methods, such as satellite since it creates new revenues and expands the market. Here is an interesting thing; in 97, domestic box office was about 5 billion dollars and the domestic home video market was about 20 billion.

The point is Ampex will be interested in creating content and will want to distribute it in as many ways as possible generating revenue upon revenues...
