i've said it before - now i'll say it again: microsoft and windows 2000 is citrix's ticket to ride! windows 2000 is really - no foolin - multiuser right out of the box. yeah, sure - you can add terminal services if you want but that doesn't change the basic fact that now windows will have something that is has never ever had in it's pathetic miserable existence - PER USER AWARNESS that has been in every piece of shit operating system (other than PC operating systems) for the last 40 years!

it is completely obvious that windows nt v4.0 terminal server edition is a stopgap measure that has significant limitations. windows 2000 addresses many issues that really have prevented terminal server from really taking off. in my opinion, anyone considering a terminal server roll-out will wait for windows 2000 while perhaps doing trial rollouts with windows nt v4.0 tse. also, no big shop is gonna roll out terminal services without metaframe. that'd be like trying to save a little money by strapping yourself on top of the airplane. nobody in their right mind would do it. penny wise, pound foolish. simple.

this java thing is incidental. sure, maybe one day java will take over the world. right now the java camp(s) don't even have a proven and perhaps not even a viable solution. java is next generation stuff - that is if it can quit being a bum and make something out of itself. by the time citrix needs to start sweating java, citrix will have a few more zeros after it's quarterly sales numbers.

...Microsoft is a potentially bigger and more immediate threat to Citrix ...
