JavaAdict, TA? What's that? Just kidding, but that's what I mean. You will not need much to get started. All you need are momentum, MACD and couple of Exponential moving averages. You will not need to study in detail any books. Just go to B&N, get any technical trading book that look interesting with big text size, a cup of coffee, sit down on a comfortable chair, look up the index at the end of the book for the word "momentum" or "MACD" or "Moving Average - Exponential," then couple pages and 1/2 hours later, you are the expert. Sound simple isn't it. But it is. Imaging a car, going at high speed. When it hits 40mph, you put in your bet that it won't stop for at least another few seconds. Of course it won't, even if if has Anti-Lock Brake system. That's what people are betting on the market momentum and moving average. Same principle, except sometime, the stock does not follow the law of nature. That is when the TA fails. By then some other numbers or fundamental may help to raise your hope that it may pop back up (or drop further if you short). Note that I use the word "hope." Wishing, hoping, praying don't usually work with stock market. Guessing might. Remember that the TA is logical stuff, but the market is an illogical creature. These two don't match, but for daytrader like us, we need something to hang on, so we pick one and hope it works. Since there are many of us who are trying to apply the same logic to the same thing, it increases the chance that the market would follow TA until Jenna and the rest of Gemmers decide to take profit. If you are like me, I just think that her language is way over my head, so I just accept it the way it is without trying to make sense of these numbers (confession time). Put the list in your watch list and hope that she'll call when the time is right. You may also want to look at its charts the night before and see if you like the look of it, or be familiar with the name. It's a long message. You can see that I'm getting bored here (or undecided, chicken, or whatever that keeps me from hitting the buy or sell button). Happens every six weeks. pooh
