Differentiaing itself from the low-margin commodity packaging and testing vendors, Amkor is focusing on advanced high-margin products that demand high-capital investment and highly trained personnel. Amkor received 52% (or higher) of their revenue from advanced high-margin packaging and testing products last year. They have established research and development centers for FC (Flip-Chip), SOC (System-On-a-Chip), and other cutting-edge products for packaging/testing and have doubled their MicroBGA capacity. They own more than 30 packaging and testing patents.

RAMBUS uses a lot of MicroBGA packaging (Terresa owns MicroBGA, I think). There are a few vendors possibly make the testing equipment for RAMBUS chips: HP, Teradyne, …

As far as whom Amkor bought the equipment from, that could be a well-kept secret at this time, but it doesn't hurt to ask Luth.
