I agree the gold-cap would never be mined if the sulphides are not. I would add that figures show the copper-sulphide layer could not be mined without copper at $1.30 a pound or about double what it is now!

Large thick ore bodies with paid-for open-pit mines and mills are shutting down or curtailing production so a relatively thin copper layer at 40 m (130 ft) depth that needs mine and mill construction and payback will not be considered by financeers until copper prices go over $1.30 a pound.

And I cannot forsee copper prices rising above the $.60 to $.75 range for the next 5 years at least.
