Pat: don't know. I have not followed their technology thrusts close enough. I have maintained that they are smart enough in their strategy, through affiliates or directly, to cover their bases. Somewhat reassuring.

ATM and packet-switching manufacturer
Newbridge Networks--one of the vendor authors
for Packet Cable OSS interfaces--expects to help
carriers like IXC and AT&T to leverage a range of
cable, local multipoint distribution service (LMDS),
digital subscriber line (DSL) and other broadband
access networks from common switching and
service-provisioning equipment.

"We've had a lot of broadband fiber, LMDS and
DSL success, and it's likely that cable infrastructure
will be only one of multiple last-mile options for large
telecommunications carriers," says Zlatko Krstulich,
assistant vice president, solutions integration, for
Newbridge's access products group. "They all need
to mine existing customers while also expanding the
cable residential footprint to make their play into the
business customer space."
