Purchased and used Iridium phone. Earth One dropped the price to $1190 for phone. No monthly minimum (great feature !!)North America rate $1.99/min, International $4.49/min. The quality of connection was very good. Called India from San Jose. By the way, Indian Army used Iridium phones in Himalayan mountains at 16000-18000 feet height for communications and coordinating the military actions among field commanders, while flushing out the Pakistani army and Islamic fundamentalist buddies of Osama Bin Laden, who had creeped into India. IMHO, if the rates are lowered to $ 0.60/min in USA and $ 2.00 for International calls, it will really take off!! The phone is cute with big, thick antenna. The phone size is similar to first analog Motorola portable cell phone that I purchased in 1984.
