jgibbs, I did a fast "back of the envelop" calculation, assuming 30 MM cars with the silver coated windshield, assuming a square meter per car and 2 micron thick layer, and I come up with yearly draw on silver of this application of less than 20 million ounces. Is that a significant amount?

By the way that comes to about 2/3 of an ounce per windshield, or about $3.3 in silver alone. Add another $3.3 for "processing costs" and you get an additional $6.6 in costs, in the automotive industry a factor of $10 between cost and selling price is not uncommon, thus this new windshield will add about $70 to the cost of a car. Do you really think that the market will reach 80% at these additional costs?
