Yes, there was. Here is the headline and the first sentence or so, from the NY Times online site:

I'm not going to buy the article from the archives for your reading pleasure (I've already read it), but you can go to the NY Times online site, get a password if you don't have one, and use an archive search "Jewish genetic" to pull this up. Then you can buy it. It discusses exactly what I mentioned.

Funny, how you missed the article and yet somehow knew it didn't exist.
